Starting with openSUSE 10.3 the power management is no longer done by YAST -> System -> Power Management as this option no longer exists. This is now done by KPowersave which, if you are using KDE can be accessed via KDesktop (started by right clicking on desktop where there are no icons and select configure desktop)
KDesktop -> display -> power control:
I swiched off screen banking by removing 'x' from enable specific display power management.

Monitoring Temperatures and Fans
We can monitor temperatures and control fans. For Windows there is a good freeware program speedfan. Linux works differently in that support for hardware sensors is built into the operating system. The sensors package seems to get installed with (on my system):
- k8temp-hwmon0/temp1
- thermal_zone/THRM
I assume temp1 is the CPU temperatue? There are no fan speed or voltages installed by default on my 10.3 system.
We use programs like gkrellm or KSysGuard to look at these packages (as described here for Suse 10.2).
If you need more values monitored then you need to install sensors as described here for 10.2.
