SUSE can either be downloaded and burned to disc or bought as a package on DVD. They are the same except the retail version includes a second DVD with addiional software such as multimedia.

Upto now I have always bought the retail version although I'm not sure its worth the cost as I have not needed the online support recently. However I did not want to open up my firewalls to bittorrent and I did not want all the hassle of doind a large download, creating and burning the DVD
Last time (openSUSE 10.2) I bought a pre-recorded DVD from The Linux Shop. However, this time, I went to the expense of buying the retail edition.
I opened the DVD drive and loaded it:
