Linux - installing software - network - Platforms

from application install

This version seems to ask for Hostname and Domain name:

network02

I was not sure what to use for Hostname and Domain name? The configuration guide says "Hostnames - When booting and in small networks, you can use Hostnames for hostname resolution instead of DNS. The entries in thismodule reflect the data of the file /etc/hosts"

Hostname: suse

Domain Name: workgroup

I unchecked 'change hostname via DHCP'

network04

network05

The above screen took a very long time and the system appeared to be frozen, I was begining to think the system had crashed and I was trying various things at random, when I hit the middle mouse button the configuration resumed. I dont know if this is just coincidence or if the middle mouse button has some magical effect during configuration.

network06

network06

network07

Note by default all the network settings are set by DHCP, if your network router does not support this default values will be used, in this case it is probably best to set more meaningful values manually, however when I did this, at this stage, the network test failed. So I left the default settings at this stage and then edited with YaST2 when installed. These issues are discussed on the SuSE newsgroup here.

(when the install has been completed there is information about setting up the network here.
