Linux - installing SUSE 10.1 - initialising - Platforms

from unpack SuSE

I am still working on this.

Insert SuSE install DVD as described here. Restart shuttle by pressing button on front.

When boot screen appears use arrow keys to select 'Installation'..

Then the following screen comes up for a long time, this does not give much feedback about what is going on, I was beginning to think that the system had locked up.

Eventually this went on to the next screen: Preparation - Language.

At this stage the PS/2 mouse does not work yet so I had to use keyboard:

up down keys & tab to change highlighted item and'carrage return' to select.

When 'next' is pressed we go on to the licence agreement:

scroll to bottom of screen and press 'I agree'

I had trouble selecting 'Yes' without mouse. (I tried to press tab until dotted line appears around 'yes')

I eventually managed to get the mouse working by pressing its middle button, which is lucky because there does not appear to be a way to get beyond this screen without mouse.

Press 'next' to go on 'installation mode' page, I selected 'new installation':

On the Time Zone page I selected United Kingdom:

I selected KDE as the desktop (now second option)
